This isn't theory. It's a system that has been tested, refined, and lived with. It's designed to be simple enough for your family to inherit, and resilient enough to handle life's curveballs

The Plan

Get paid in BTC: Easily route more of your income into BTC with minimal friction.

  • The cleanest direct-deposit setups that actually work

  • How to minimize or offset conversion fees

  • Set it once and let it run automatically

Pay Bills Without Manual Tracking: Pay rent, utilities, credit cards, and recurring costs using BTC as your base.

  • Providers with most automated workflows

  • Automated or manual BTC conversion

  • Build a system that manages recurring bills without daily management

Self-Custody on Your Terms: Take control of your Bitcoin securely, especially if you are starting out.

  • Choose seedless wallets for simplicity or multisig for legacy planning

  • Understand real risks and how to mitigate them safely

  • Build a setup your family can follow in an emergency

Stay in Bitcoin Mode (not Fiat): Design habits that preserve sovereignty.

  • Reduce default reliance on dollars for spending and saving

  • Use BTC-native tools wherever possible

  • Keep your Bitcoin growing while you live your daily life

FAQ

  • Do I have to give up self-custody?

    • Absolutely not. You'll have a daily stash to pay bills, the rest in cold storage. Think about it, NONE of your fiat is self-custodial. This flips the script.

  • Is this U.S. only?

    • Most of the tools recommended are currently available only in the U.S. but the ideas are implementable anywhere; they might just be less automated.

  • What if tools change?

    • They will! The good thing is that every week there are more and more alternatives. Even the big banks are getting in the game. Also, soon the team at Living on Bitcoin will launch a tool stack list that will be maintained for as long as feasible.

  • Is this about avoiding fiat completely?

    • No. This is about optimizing your financial life to remain practical while protecting your work, energy, and sweat.
